On the 4th of September 2024, a seminar orientation as part of their first activity on the National Service Training Program - Civic Welfare Training Service (NSTP-CWTS) at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR) of Southern Leyte State University - Maasin City Campus.
RA 9163 otherwise known as the National Training Service Act of 2001 is a mandated course that aims to enhance the civic consciousness of the students “by developing the ethics of service and patriotism” while undergoing Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS).
This orientation is for the first-year students who will be having their NSTP 1 this semester and NSTP 2 this second semester of the A.Y. 2024-2025.
Headed by Dr. Lucia Estella Grace A. Abaa, together with Ma'am Maricar Paloma, and Sir Rannie Sumacot, the students were introduced to NSTP 1 which focuses on drug education, rescues and first-aids, disaster awareness, and other nationality concerns; and to NSTP 2 that focuses on community services or community development and immersion such as mangrove planting and clean-up drives. The course was designed to develop the students' discipline and ethical well-being to become confident and efficient youths who will drive their civic consciousness in upholding their patriotism and nation-building.
As the freshies enter this new chapter and learn new things, we hope that this knowledge will be kept to heart for a nation loving with proper ethics in giving service, is a character that may be an asset that no one could steal from you in the long run.
