In an effort to educate NSTP students about drug-related issues, the NSTP-CWTS Drug Symposium Seminar was organized on September 25, 2024, at the Audio Visual Room of the SLSU Maasin City Campus (MCC). First came the National Anthem, which was followed by the SLSU Hymn and a prayer. The event's host, Mr. Conrad Owyn Novh Y. Mercado, MPA, delivered the introductory remarks on behalf of Campus Director Dr. Frederick C. Aniga, who had to attend to other pressing concerns. Setting the stage for an educational conversation, campus nurse Aurora C. Abadiano, RN, introduced resource speaker Christine Ann C. Dumapias from the PDEA Regional Office.
NSTP students enrolled in the BPA and BSSW programs were the target audience for Ms. Christine Ann C. Dumapias' informative and insightful discussion. The presentation's main points were the risks associated with drug usage, the extensive impact it can have on both persons and communities, and the various authorities and agencies that may help with drug-related issues. In addition to being more than just a lecture, the seminar encouraged students to actively participate and gave them a broader awareness of the legal, psychological, and social elements of drug-related concerns.
The event concluded with an interactive open forum, where students raised questions and shared their insights. The exchange of ideas demonstrated how much the seminar had increased their awareness and comprehension of the topic. Dr. Lucia Estella Grace A. Abaa, the NSTP Coordinator, expressed her gratitude to Ms. Dumapias by presenting her with a certificate of appreciation and a token. In her closing remarks, Dr. Abaa emphasized the success of the event, thanking everyone involved for their participation and contributions.
