An exciting exhibition of athleticism took place at the SLSU Main Campus Grandstand during the U-Games 2024 beach volleyball match between the Maasin City Campus and the San Juan Campus. Leo Costillas and Andro Jaca, two Maasin City Campus players, engaged in a furious battle on the sand, captivating the crowd with their all-out display. Despite their tenacious play and excellent cooperation, the San Juan team put up a fierce fight against the Maasin City pair, winning the first set 17 -21 score in a closely contested match to set up a crucial second set.
Costillas and Jaca improved their defense and hit some amazing serves and spikes in the second set, which kept the score close and tested the limitations of the San Juan players. Every rally demonstrated the Maasin City team's talent and commitment, as they had obviously put in many hours of training to be ready for this elite encounter. But in the end, the San Juan Campus players beat them in 16 – 21 score, winning the best-of-three match and the second set.
Despite not progressing further in the competition, the players gained vital experience. The fierce competition demonstrated the dedication and hard effort they had put into their preparation, and Costillas and Jaca were both thankful for the chance to participate. The game was a great learning opportunity, and the players are excited to apply what they learned to improve their performance in upcoming competitions, demonstrating their commitment to developing into top athletes.
