The Gandilan Awards took place on March 7, 2025, at the MPC Hall of SLSU - Main Campus in Sogod, Southern Leyte. This prestigious event brought together key figures from the university and its esteemed partners, including University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, vice presidents, international and national collaborators, private and government partners, campus directors, faculty, and staff from various SLSU campuses. The program began with preliminary activities, followed by an engaging performance from the university’s theatre guild, which set a lively and celebratory tone for the evening.
The highlight of the event was the awarding ceremony, symbolizing SLSU’s deep appreciation for its partners who have significantly contributed to the university’s growth and success. The Gandilan Awards also provided a platform to recognize outstanding employees whose dedication and performance have greatly benefited the institution. The recognition segment was accompanied by an energetic band performance, adding excitement to the occasion. Among the awardees were two distinguished individuals from the Maasin City Campus: Irish Ann Cerro, RSW, from the Social Work Department, who was honored with the Light Breaker Award for her remarkable punctuality and attendance; and Dr. Jonathan Palco, head of the RIES Office, who received the Loyalty Award for his ten years of dedicated service, represented by Mr. Joseph Nantes of OSAS.
As the ceremony concluded, Dr. Jude A. Duarte expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university’s partners and congratulated all the awardees for their commitment to excellence. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and dedication in driving SLSU toward greater heights, inspiring everyone to strive for excellence.
