On September 4, 2024, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) hosted the Federation of Supreme Student Councils (FSSC) election in the Main Campus Conference Room. The ceremony opened with a greeting from Mr. Ricky Sevilla, the outgoing President of the FSSC. The Vice President of Student and Auxiliary Services then gave a speech of encouragement, stressing the significance of choosing representatives for the Governing Board who can speak for the SLSU student body. SLSU's Student Development Services (SDS) and Student Affairs and Services (SAS) representatives also offered encouraging words, and Hon. The FSSC Vice-President for Internal Affairs, Gabriel Wong, wished the representatives from each institution a very happy day.
During their campaign presentations, SSC Presidents from the six SLSU campuses—Main (Sogod), San Juan, Hinunangan, Bontoc, Tomas Oppus, and Maasin City—showcasing their platforms and objectives for advocacy. With succinct yet powerful summaries of their programs, each contender aroused interest in the election's result. The FSSC Head of the Electoral Committee, who oversaw the procedure, clarified the rules and procedures to guarantee a free and transparent election.
The election resulted in the declaration of Hon. The newly elected FSSC President, Jay Lou Alfarante of the San Juan Campus, and Hon. Vice-President for Internal Affairs Jose Salon Constantino III of the Hinunangan Campus. Vice-Presidents for External Affairs were designated for the remaining campus presidents. Later, the new officers spoke with Dr. Jude A. Duarte, the president of SLSU, about campus issues and reiterated their dedication to student growth. The ceremony for taking the oath of office, which officially inaugurated the new FSSC leadership, brought the event to a close.
