The program commenced with a warm welcome message delivered by Mr. Genard Laguras. Following this, Gretchen Catigan introduced the speaker, Ms. Lizlie Ann P. Ladrena,a registered nurse and a labor and employment officer III.
Ms. Ladrena discussed first the Labor standard, that this are defined as the minimum requirements prescribed by existing laws, rules, and regulations relating to wages, hours of work, allowances, and other monetary and welfare benefits, including those set by occupational safety and health standards. The seminar educates us students about Philippine labor laws to prepare for our future work. This knowledge empowers us to advocate for our rights and understand our responsibilities as employees, contributing to a more just and equitable workplace. It also helps us avoid potential legal issues and fosters a positive working relationship with employers.
One of the most important matter that has been discussed was the Philippine Handbook on Workers' Statutory Monetary Benefits explains the legal requirements for employers regarding employee compensation. It details minimum wage, holiday pay, overtime, leave benefits (maternity, paternity), and the 13th-month pay. The handbook aims to clarify employee entitlements and ensure compliance with Philippine labor laws. It's a crucial resource for both employers and employees to understand their rights and obligations. This ensures fair treatment and a productive work environment.
The seminar on labor laws was very informative and raised our awareness of employee rights. This knowledge will be invaluable in our future careers, ensuring we understand our rights and protections in the workplace. We learned about crucial aspects such as fair wages, safe working conditions, and dispute resolution processes. This comprehensive understanding will empower us to advocate for ourselves and contribute to a more equitable work environment.
The discussion was interesting and highly informative, prompting several students to ask questions afterward. Ms. Ladrena, possessing extensive knowledge, expertly answered their inquiries, highlighting the topic's importance and relevance.
The program concluded with a heartfelt closing remark from Ms. Sherylou Arañez, who expressed gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and participants for their contributions to the successful event.
