Fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Social Work students of Southern Leyte State University–Maasin City Campus (SLSU-MCC) formally launched their Field Instruction 1 (FI 1) internship program through a launching and orientation ceremony held at 9:00 a.m. at the Audio Visual Room (AVR) on the third floor of the campus.

The ceremony opened with a welcome message from Social Work Program Head Elmee Joy D. Oraiz, RSW, MSSW, who also delivered an inspirational message anchored on the students’ song, Sarangola. She emphasized that a sarangola can only fly when it remains connected to something that keeps it grounded. She encouraged the students to remain grounded despite the difficulties they may encounter throughout their field instruction, emphasizing that, like a sarangola, they can soar higher when they remain connected to what keeps them grounded.

Following the inspirational message, Renalain N. Bagtasus, RSW, MSSW, presented an overview of FI 1 and introduced the program’s partner agencies and Field Instruction supervisors. The orientation provided students with an overview of the internship program and the agencies where they would undertake their field instruction.

The event proceeded with the symbolic launching, highlighted by the wearing of FI 1 jackets and the distribution of Field Instruction identification cards to the students. Messages from students, parents, and FI supervisors followed, offering encouragement and support as the students embarked on their field instruction journey.

The ceremony concluded with a closing message from Faculty Dean Karina G. Gutierrez, MPA, followed by a photo opportunity with the students, faculty, FI supervisors, and other participants. The launching formally marked the beginning of the students’ Field Instruction 1, setting the stage for their transition from classroom learning to practical social work experience in their respective partner agencies.
