On Novermber 13, 2024, Wednesday, a seminar on the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act was conducted, organized by 4th year Public Administration OJT student, with the objective of educating them on the nuances of the law, its implications, and its enforcement in the workplace. The event was held at SLSU- MCC 3rd floor and attended by all 4th year graduating student.
The program commenced with a welcome message delivered by Ms. Leoniza Zamora, who emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to sexual harassment in the workplace and fostering a culture of respect and professionalism.
The highlight of the event was the talk given by Patrolwoman Hanah Grace G. Orias, who served as the guest speaker. She provided an in-depth discussion on the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, focusing on critical aspects such as the authority figures who are held accountable under this law, including employers, managers, and supervisors. The act of granting any favorable compensation in exchange for sexual favors and why it is strictly prohibited. The distinction between individuals who have moral interest or influence over others and those who do not, clarifying that harassment is prohibited regardless of the perpetrator's status. Lastly, the concept of third-party setups, such as a "friend bridge," wherein one employee induces a co-worker to engage in inappropriate activities. Her discussion shed light on the ethical responsibilities of individuals in positions of power and the legal consequences of exploiting such power for personal gain. The students was highly engaged, and many expressed their appreciation for the clarity and relevance of the topics presented.
The program concluded with the giving of certificates to the guest speaker and organizers as a token of appreciation, facilitated by Ms. Salvacion Teng and Ms. Norbella Roxas. Finally, the emcees, Jusa Padilla and John Michael Pia, closed the program with words of gratitude to all attendees for their active participation.
This seminar not only heightened awareness of sexual harassment issues but also underscored the commitment of the organization to uphold a safe and respectful environment for everyone.
