The much-anticipated Search for Mr. and Ms. SLSU 2025 took center stage on March 5, 2025, at the Multi-Purpose Center (MPC) on the SLSU Main Campus in Sogod, Southern Leyte. The grand event attracted an enthusiastic crowd from all six campuses of SLSU, along with university key officials, including Dr. Jude A. Duarte, Vice Presidents, Campus Directors, Faculty Deans, students, parents, guests, and sponsors.
The atmosphere was electrifying as 11 pairs of candidates, representing various colleges and extension campuses, vied for the prestigious titles. The audience cheered as the contestants confidently introduced themselves, waving banners and balloons to support their representatives. The energy intensified during the swimwear competition, where the candidates showcased their confidence and poise. However, the competition was not just about beauty and physique; the candidates also impressed the judges and the audience with their eloquent, advocacy-driven answers during the question-and-answer portion, leaving a lasting impression.
A highlight of the evening was the breathtaking display of Filipino culture and modern elegance in the formal wear segment. Candidates stunned the crowd in intricately designed modern Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana attires, showcasing a fusion of tradition and contemporary fashion. The tension heightened as the Top 5 male and female finalists were announced. These candidates faced the final round, answering a thought-provoking question posed by University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, which aligned with the university’s theme, LUPAD. Their responses reflected intellect, confidence, and a profound understanding of leadership and advocacy.
To add excitement to the night, actor Aljon Mendoza performed, captivating the audience with his charm and serenading both the candidates and the crowd.
The event reached its climax with the announcement of the winners. The 4th Runners-Up were Ms. Mhay Dianne Villariaza and Mr. Shawn Gunther Esguerra, while Ms. Jamaica Eliza Maturan and Mr. Edrian Anunciado earned the 3rd Runner-Up spots. The 2nd Runner-Up titles went to Ms. Jane Darlene Basa and Mr. Rexcel Lipio, and the 1st Runner-Up honors were awarded to Ms. Mariecar Merca and Mr. John Cole Anton Vargas.
Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived: Mr. Khir Gaces from the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Ms. Ysabella Iglesia from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management were crowned as the new Mr. and Ms. SLSU 2025. Their victory was met with thunderous applause, marking another successful and unforgettable edition of this prestigious pageant.
