Pulse Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Pulse ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Pulse mobile application (the "App").
---
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address — for authentication and account recovery
- Optional profile fields — country and age, which you may provide voluntarily
Device & Usage Data
- Push notification token — generated by Apple/Google and used solely to deliver notifications you have opted into
- Reading history and preferences — stored locally on your device and used to personalize your news feed. A copy of your XP balance, saved articles, and category preferences is synced to your
account on our servers so you can access them from another device after logging in.
Optional Location Data
- We request location access only when you actively use location-specific features such as local news or weather. Location is never collected in the background.
Optional Photo Library Access
- Photo library access is requested only for admin users when manually adding a news article with an image. Images are selected by the user at the moment of upload — no automatic scanning or
background access occurs.
---
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Authenticate your account and keep it secure
- Personalize your news feed based on your interactions
- Sync your saved articles, preferences, and XP across devices
- Send notifications you have opted in to receive
- Provide AI-powered news summaries you request (questions are sent to our AI provider on demand)
---
3. No Advertising. No Tracking.
Pulse does not display advertisements, does not use the App Tracking Transparency framework, and does not share any user data with third-party advertising networks. We do not maintain
advertising profiles, do not use device identifiers for tracking, and do not sell or rent user data to any party.
---
4. Third-Party Services
Pulse integrates with a small number of services strictly necessary to operate the App:
┌──────────────────────┬──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Service │ Purpose │
├──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Google Firebase │ Authentication, secure database, push notification delivery │
├──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ RevenueCat │ Premium subscription management and purchase verification │
├──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Anthropic Claude API │ AI-generated news summaries (only when you actively request one) │
├──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Tiingo / CoinGecko │ Live financial market data for the Markets section │
├──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ Expo │ App framework, over-the-air updates │
└──────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Each service receives only the minimum data required for its function. None of these services receive advertising-related identifiers, and none are used to track you across other apps or
websites.
---
5. Data Storage and Security
- Account and synced data are stored on Google Firebase servers with industry-standard encryption.
- Reading history, preferences, and cached articles are stored locally on your device and never leave your device unless explicitly synced to your account.
- We do not transfer your personal data to any country outside of the regions where Firebase operates.
---
6. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Edit or delete your profile information from within the App (Profile → Edit)
- Clear your local reading history (Profile → Privacy)
- Permanently delete your account, which removes all server-side data associated with you (Profile → Delete Account)
- Disable push notifications from the App or iOS Settings
- Revoke location and photo library permissions from iOS Settings
---
7. Children's Privacy
Pulse is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in regions where that age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided
us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
---
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Significant changes will be highlighted in-app on the next launch after
they take effect.
