Pukepoto School is a small rural contributing school of 29 students and is situated eight kilometres from Kaitaia on the Kaitaia-Awaroa Highway.

The school is a decile 1 and is 100% Maori.

There are at present 2 fulltime teaching staff and 2 classrooms- Room1, Years 1-3 and Room 4, Years 4-6.

The school has a modern administration block as well as a multi-purpose hall and a refurbished school library. The school is well resourced in all curriculum areas with one-to-one devices in both rooms (iPads in Room 1 and Chromebooks in Room 4) as well as Active Smartboards in all classrooms.

Entrance to the school is via a concrete bus bay and through a Maori carved archway and shrubbery, which forms a prominent feature of the school grounds.

Special features of the school include a swimming pool, large play areas and equipment, attractive well-maintained gardens and grounds, a school orchard, creek area and wetlands which are currently being re-developed.

The school enjoys a rural outlook and relatively low pupil/teacher ratios.

Pukepoto has a tradition of whanau returning to enrol their families.
