Outreach

I have participated in several outreach events mainly focusing on Catalan and other minoritised languages. You can find an exhaustive list of them below. I have also contributed to the A taste of... series of the Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies Project and I have participated in the Catalan News podcasts series Filling the Sink and several articles on what it is like to teach and learn Catalan abroad. I am happy to collaborate with other outreach activities about linguistics, Catalan, Occitan or minoritised languages in general.

Participation in the Filling the sink podcast

I participated in a podcast discussing learning and teaching Catalan abroad. In it, I talked about my experience as Catalan lecturer at the University of Cambridge, and shared details about the greatest challenges that students (and I) faced, as well as some anecdotes.

A taste of Catalan – MEITS Project

Short video aimed at the general public presenting the Catalan language, including information about where it is spoken, its history, its structure and how to learn it. The video is part of the Language Tasters series, published by the Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies (University of Cambridge).

2017-2019

Founder and member of the Cambridge University Catalan Society board (CUCat)

CUCat, aims at promoting the culture, language, history and science of the Catalan speaking territories within the Cambridge University and Cambridge city communities. Founding member and president (2017-2018), secretary (2018-2019) and events organiser (2019-2020).

2019

The Catalan Language – 10 million European voices, Festival of Ideas, Cambridge

Delivery of a presentation of the exhibition The Catalan Language – 10 million European voices, by Plataforma per la Llengua, Catalan charity that promotes the use of Catalan and the linguistic rights of Catalan speakers. In collaboration with Dr Josep Anton Fernàndez.

2015

The Secret Life of Endangered Languages, Festival of Ideas, Cambridge

Delivery of a talk exploring the different endangered languages of western Europe, with a focus on the endangered languages spoken in the UK, France and Spain. In collaboration with Harold Flohr.
