Dr. Ting Lu, a professor of bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), has been recognized as one of four recipients of the 2021 Greg Gulick Honorary Research Award. This prestigious award provides $25,000 in Amazon Web Services (AWS) credits to support research in critical areas such as cancer or COVID-19.Â
Dr. Lu's work at UIUC focuses on the complex relationship between bacteria and tumor development. His research aims to develop a modeling framework that clarifies how bacteria may influence the onset, progression, and treatment response of cancer. This significant work has already yielded two publications in the American Chemical Society Synthetic Biology journal.
Despite his limited prior experience with cloud computing, Dr. Lu has found using AWS to be straightforward and extremely beneficial. The platform, accessible to all UIUC faculty, staff, and students, includes resources like weekly office hours for additional support. Dr. Lu praised the unique and powerful computational resources provided by AWS, which were essential for the successful implementation of his project.
Dr. Lu expressed deep gratitude for the Greg Gulick Honorary Research Award, recognizing it as a significant opportunity to expand his research scope. He thanked Mr. Greg Gulick for his exemplary leadership and service, which have greatly facilitated the advancement of technology services and supported research endeavors at the university.
