Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Opportunities
We need YOU! The PTO could not function without all of our wonderful parent support! Please consider volunteering for various positions throughout the year. There is an opportunity for everyone! Whether you want to help plan an event or give an hour of your time volunteering, all efforts are needed and appreciated!
There are various ways to volunteer for District 31:
Lead/chair an activity (Here is a list of activities planned for Winkelman Elementary and Field Middle School)
Be a Room Parent (see below)
Be an Art Enrichment Parent (see below)
Lastly, the PTO is looking for a photographer to capture pictures and videos of our events! If you're interested, please email us!
**Note: Room parents and other PTO volunteers lead and support PTO activities. Opportunities to be part of district-led activities (like field trips or other classroom activities) are open to all parents, not PTO members only.
Winkelman Room Parent Responsibilities
Thank you so much for being a part of the PTO and volunteering to help lead your grade(s) through parties and activities throughout the year. Your contribution dramatically enhances the students' classroom experience. Below is a general list of what you can expect to do as a room parent, aside from the added benefits of getting better acquainted and spending more time with your teacher, your child's friends, and your child.
Communicate with your teacher and classroom parents to share PTO news
Work with your grade cohort to plan two (2) room parties, lead activities for Teacher Appreciation Week, and organize an end-of-year gift for your teacher(s).
Plan social outings for your grade's parents (optional but encouraged) to build a stronger community.
FIFTH GRADE ONLY: Fifth-grade room parents are responsible for planning and hosting the Farewell to Fifth party, a congratulatory event as our fifth graders move on to Field Middle School.
For more specific details on the Room Parent program, please take a look at the PTO Bylaws here.
Any questions? Don't hesitate to contact PTO room parent liaison Saima Gowani.
Many thanks for your time, efforts, and support of our students. Have a wonderful year in District 31!
Winkelman School Art Enrichment Program (ongoing)
Art Enrichment is a fun, non-academic PTO program that gives our children more exposure to legendary artists and their renowned masterpieces. This program provides an excellent opportunity for parents to get involved in their child’s classroom while providing an educational and fun experience for the students.
What’s involved? Parent volunteers:
Visit their child’s class 3 - 5 times between October and April to present an artist and their artwork
Read and present about a pre-determined art piece (all information is provided)
Have fun with art projects and the students!
