Description of the Group

The main interest of Speciality Polymer Group goes to preparation of reactive and functional polymers and their use in separation processes. There are two groups of separation materials that are investigated: membranes and sorbents. They are as follows:

  • cation- and anion-exchange membranes for electrodialysis, electrodeionization and capacitive deionization,

  • porous membranes for filtration, membranes with reduced fouling ability, membranes for bioreactors,

  • spacers for batteries

  • supports for immobilisation of bioactive species,

  • selective sorbents for hydrometallurgy or for removal of toxic species from aqueous solutions

The current research is focused on:

  • synthesis and characterisation of new-generation of polymer sorbents (thermo- and pH-sensitive polymers, selective sorbents, heterogenic catalysts, supports for biological and medical applications, nano- and microparticles),

  • polymer membranes (nanofiltration, pore-filled membranes, stimuli responsive membranes, molecularly imprinted membranes, selective membranes),

  • nanostructured membranes,

  • fine sorbents for hybrid systems,

  • barrier membranes for photovoltaic systems, membranes for hydrogen purification and compression.
