Prof. P. Thilagar obtained his B.Sc. from Tagore Arts College and his M.Sc. from Pondicherry Central University. He received his Ph.D. in 2007 from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), under the supervision of Prof. V. Chandrasekhar, and subsequently pursued postdoctoral research with Prof. Frieder Jäkle at Rutgers University. In 2009, he joined the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science as a faculty member. In the same year, he was elected a Young Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences. He received the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Bronze Medal in Chemistry (2018). He was elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc), in 2024 and a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc), Bengaluru, in 2026. Prof. Thilagar previously served on the Editorial Advisory Board of Organometallics, published by the American Chemical Society, and currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of Aggregate and ChemPhotoChem, both published by Wiley-VCH. His research focuses on developing diverse classes of boron-containing luminescent dyes and exploring the medicinal applications of peptides and small molecules.
