Social media comparison can result in body dissatisfaction and low self-esteem, improving satisfaction with one’s body, is discovering successful interventions. The route to rehabilitation is a long path that consists of several therapy sessions which are all unique to one another. For example, person-to-person therapy, in-group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and even yoga therapy. Desikachar and other scholars discussed that in terms of body positivity/ body acceptance yoga is the most successful tool in the healing and recovery process. Yoga is a multidimensional practice that teaches individuals about the complex human system, while also offering self-empowerment, and understanding that a person's mental position determines the healing process. In 2006, more than 18 eating disorder recovery centers incorporated yoga therapy as a required program and found patients with higher body satisfaction. Furthermore, the limitless benefits of yoga therapy are also impactful in treating anxiety, body image, and traumatic disorders (Boudette, et al., 2006).
Body awareness therapy is a procedure individuals partake in to improve aspects of their mind and pain. Although physicians can prescribe medication to temporarily remove physical pain it can not assist people in connecting their mind and body. The process of body awareness therapy consists of small groups gathering in comfortable environments to listen to verbal instructions from a conductor. The purpose of this program is to promote healthy habits and stimulate body awareness through breathing, moving, and oral techniques. For illustration, participants have the option to stand, sit, or lay down in synchrony with specific exercises (Teles, et., 2014). In conclusion to this session, participants would discuss their experience with this exercise and state current feelings regarding body satisfaction. This treatment gives people the opportunity to gain control of negative notions pertaining to their bodies and express discomfort and discover healthy solutions. According to Teles Fregonesi et al., after completing a two-month span, 28 individuals increased their perception of body awareness.
Researchers have found both thin and fat-related body dissatisfaction are most prevalent in women and oftentimes leads to eating disorders (Gao., et al., 2013). The concepts of ideal body images are being constructed from images, words, and social media, thus women are influenced to despise their bodies. Once an individual is displeased with their body interventions are highly suggested to prevent further harm. During an intervention participants would be expected to share positive attributes of themselves and complement themselves daily, the purpose of this is to guide women to appreciate the bodies they live in. For individuals that struggle with ideal body image deprived of media outlets would participate in finding and following public figures that complement their image beliefs. The purpose of both interventions is to alleviate negative self-esteem thoughts and change them with positive thoughts. In agreement, a study conducted by Obin & Von demonstrated interventions effectively reduced biases of body images.
