One Sec (One-Sec) provides accurate visual timing at half-second, one-second, and two-second intervals to support standardized test administration. It is designed to help maintain test validity and reliability while making timing easier and more consistent.
I use One Sec constantly instead of relying on my (ADHD regulated) internal clock. I have found it especially helpful for the half-second intervals on a popular test many of us use.
I have been using this app for about two years and decided to share it because other professionals may find it useful as well. I did not like using traditional metronomes. I prefer a flashing visual cue, and One Sec keeps the screen on the entire time, so you do not need to unlock your device in the middle of a subtest.
Important use note: To prevent distractions or interference with the examinee’s performance, keep your iPhone or iPad out of sight. I recommend reducing the screen brightness in the app settings. I typically place my phone behind the test manual and use my peripheral vision to monitor the timer while presenting each stimulus.
This app includes blinking visual effects. Individuals who are sensitive to flashing lights or who have photosensitive epilepsy should use caution.
I am releasing One Sec for free for now. After developing and publishing two apps, I can say I understand why many apps are not free—each one takes hundreds of hours to build. Polishing and publishing take a lot of time, too.
Happy testing!
