Psychological abuse is widespread, subtle and often goes undetected.
It can take many forms and take place in the familty, at school, in the workplace. In a science and engineering context, in research and scholarship.
The talk linked below is an excerpt providing an overview of a novel approach to detecting psychological abuse and tackling it using a complex system approach.
A new initiative is seeking to form a COP (community of practice) in relation to psychological abuse and systemic deviation in academia and research, linked in particular to whistleblowing, ie, where the psychological abuse is systemic and part of the institutional ethos, the identification and reporting of which is a type of whistleblowing. For example, a serial abuser finds his or her way to become nominated as the key person responsible for ethical supervision and investigation of harrasment.
