Learn About Our Events
Music Service Club works closely with local nursing and retirement homes to arrange musical performances for the elderly. We host 3-4 nursing home events per semester, typically taking place on Saturdays or Sundays. Performances are around an hour in length, consisting of both ensemble and solo pieces.
Members are encouraged to perform one or more piece per nursing home event, but we welcome members to join to observe the performances as well (We understand you might want to watch first before taking the stage yourself!)
Rides will be arranged to and from nursing home events prior to the day of the performance. If any member drives to the event, they will be refunded for gas money.
Performance suggestions for nursing home events:
Jazz
Musical Soundtracks
Music popular in the 50s, 60s, or 70s
Disney
Anything that you think is appropriate to perform at a nursing home!
Music Service Club is a partner of LifeLink PSU, a "secondary transition program that provides a college experience for State College Area School District students with special needs."
LifeLink events take place on weekday afternoons, and they are typically 30-60 min in length. Similar to nursing home events, LifeLink events consist of both ensemble and solo performances.
LifeLink is located in the HUB at Penn State University Park, so it is easy to access for most students. Check our GroupMe if you need extra assistance finding LifeLink
Performance Suggestions for LifeLink:
Disney
Pop music
Rap
Anything energetic/well known (many of the students like to sing along!)
Music Service Club is partnered with multiple other groups across the State College community! These events are less regular than Nursing Home or LifeLink events, but that are still a ton of fun.
MSC often works with the Globe to arrange multicultural music events, such as our International Music Night. We also work with other organizations such as UNICEF and APO Scouts to bring music to the State College community.
