Article 18: Non-Tenure Track Instructional and Research Faculty
As it currently appears in the CBA, Article 18 is unwieldy and often unclear. The corrections attempt to fix much of this. The language changes here are almost entirely “editorial,” not substantive; the goal is to make this Article easier to read and simpler to use as a guide.
These are the cosmetic and other non-substantive changes:
1. Paragraph numbering/lettering fixed; affected cross-references corrected.
2. Misplaced text moved. (Example: “If faculty member receives…” moved from top pg. 4 to top pg. 2)
3. Some language streamlined when superfluous, repetitive, or outdated.
4. “Working” days changed to “business” days.
5. Typos fixed.
There are a few substantive changes. As the union and administration teams worked their way through this article, we did discover a few errors that needed to be correct and a few process aspects that needed to be updated or improved.
These are the substantive changes:
1. New reference to LOA #5, bottom pg. 4.
2. Correction to table, pg. 5: PCAR in year 5, not year 6.
3. PCAR deadlines in subsection (g): May 15, notice of eligibility; June 1, requests for deferral or opt out; June 15, decision on deferral and opt out requests.
4. Clarifications in table in subsection (h), mainly in regard to reconsideration process.
