碧山亭创立于大清同治九年（公元1870），是广州、惠州、肇庆三府人士的百年安身之地，历来对文教和慈善事业贡献良多。新加坡开埠初期，三属先贤梅南瑞等人购置汤申路上段一带土地，成为三属人士的共管产业。

光绪十六年（公元1890），梅湛轩倡建“碧山庙”并修建道路。民国初年，总理吴胜鹏调解管理争议，使广惠肇十六会馆采用轮值制度共同管理碧山亭产业。此后，碧山亭逐步扩展至324英亩（相当于184个足球场），设10亭和一个大庙。同时，广惠肇三属人士还创设学校、广惠肇留医院等等机构服务乡亲。1982年起，碧山亭增建纪念碑等等硬件设施纪念三属先贤。从创办到现在的一百五十多年间，碧山亭一直为社会慈善、文化做出积极贡献，致力传承华族文化，共同并进打造新加坡的持续繁荣与发展。

碧山亭属下的文物馆，创建于2018年，开馆以来即开放接待公众参观。文物馆藏品丰富，许多馆藏是独一无二的。例如：百年历史的“孙中山肖画像”（微笑画社作品）、袁世凯题字“匾额”、百年关公像关刀、200年历史的清代“庙石”、130年历史的“碧山庙香炉”，以及众多丰富的民俗怀旧文物。2021年以来，文物馆还入藏了1402件“早期南来华人文物”（玉镯、银镯、迷你菩萨锡杖等等），都是超过百年历史的珍贵文物。

同时，文物馆也筹办、组织多项文化交流活动。例如：百年华乐乐器展览（2024）、碧山亭文化节（2025），以及组织参观会馆团、历史徒步团等等。文物馆也经常发表学术研究论文、报章文章，以及出版专书等等。文物馆欢迎公众人士前来交流和参观，共同建设一个温馨的文化教育基地，扶持和教育年轻一辈，让华族文化生生不息绽放在新加坡这片土地之上！

Peck San Theng: A Legacy of Culture and Compassion

Founded in the ninth year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1870 CE), Peck San Theng stands as a time-honored sanctuary and resting ground for the people of Guangzhou, Huizhou, and Zhaoqing. For over a century, it has been a steadfast pillar in advancing education and charitable causes, earning deep reverence across generations.

In the nascent days of Singapore’s development, visionary pioneers such as Moy Nang Swee acquired land in the Upper Thomson area, laying the foundation for what would become a shared ancestral domain for the three prefectures.

In 1890, during the 16th year of the Guangxu reign, Moy Chan Siong spearheaded the construction of the Peck San Temple, together with roads that would connect and serve the wider community. In the early Republican era, General Manager Goh Seng Pang successfully mediated administrative disputes, leading to the establishment of a rotational management system among the Sixteen Associations of Kwong-Wai-Siew, ensuring the fair and harmonious governance of the estate.

Over time, Peck San Theng flourished, expanding to a vast 324 acres—the equivalent of 184 football fields—with ten elegant pavilions and a grand temple. The three clans also established schools, the Kwong Wai Shiu Free Hospital, and a range of benevolent institutions, extending care and education to the broader community.

Since 1982, various memorial structures have been erected to honor the noble contributions of the early pioneers. In 2018, the Kwong Wai Siew Heritage Gallery was formally inaugurated and opened to the public, dedicated to the promotion of cultural knowledge, intergenerational dialogue, and historical preservation.

For over 150 years, Peck San Theng has stood as a beacon of benevolence and culture, passionately committed to safeguarding Chinese heritage and contributing to the flourishing prosperity of a multicultural Singapore.

The Heritage Gallery: A Living Treasury of Chinese Culture

The Peck San Theng Heritage Gallery, established in 2018, has welcomed visitors since its inception. Its extensive and precious collection includes many one-of-a-kind artifacts, reflecting the spiritual, historical, and artistic wealth of the Chinese diaspora. Among the highlights are:

• A century-old portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a masterpiece by The Smiling Studio

• A plaque bearing the inscription of Yuan Shikai, the first president of the Republic of China

• An antique statue of Guan Gong complete with his legendary Green Dragon Crescent Blade

• A sacred temple cornerstone from the Qing Dynasty, with a history stretching back 200 years

• A 130-year-old incense burner from the original Peck San Temple

• A vast array of nostalgic folk relics and cultural heirlooms

Since 2021, the gallery has also acquired 1,402 precious artifacts documenting the lives of early Chinese immigrants to Southeast Asia—including jade bracelets, silver bangles, miniature Buddhist monk staffs, and other items, each steeped in a century or more of history.

In addition to its curatorial efforts, the Heritage Gallery actively curates and organizes cultural exchange programs. These include:

• A grand exhibition of century-old Chinese musical instruments (2024)

• The inaugural Peck San Theng Cultural Festival (2025)

• Guided heritage tours to clan associations and historical walking trails

The gallery also regularly publishes academic papers, newspaper articles, and dedicated monographs, fostering rich dialogue between scholars and the wider community.
