Throughout the year, Puget Sound Investment club is hosting various guest speakers, special events, and field trips. After each event, we write up a summary for you all to read here. Enjoy!

AT&T vs. Verizon Stock Pitch - October 2019

Darren Yeun and Declan Peloso teamed up to create a club first, a dual stock pitch! Together, they agreed the portfolio could expand into the telecommunications industry. Rather than sticking to our standard format, they decided to pitch two companies simultaneously to both show new members how to compare fundamentals and give them alternative options to invest into this massive industry. The pair created a presentation primer for the new members to learn vocabulary used in their presentation

2019-2020 Elections

At the end of each semester, the club goes through a full round of elections to bring in a new executive team. Declan Peloso, Darren Yeun, and Frank Finlayson are all returning to the team. We're excited to welcome new members Julian Bieganski, Luke Groenveld, and Eric Zdechlick

Women in Finance Panel - April 2019

This semester, we put on the Women in Finance Panel on April 2nd. Finance is a heavily male-dominated industry, so it is important for all of us to continue to support women leadership in the workplace. Shelly Heier, Erica Coogan, Mitzi Carletti, and Laura Smith came to Puget Sound to talk about their experiences, give career advice, and speak to how we can continue to support women in finance. The turnout for this event was amazing, as we had over 40 students in attendance. Shelly Heier was instrumental in putting this whole event together, and we hope to continue our relationship with her so that we can have more women-focused events in the future.

Seattle Field Trip - April 2019

The Puget Sound Investment club was fortunate enough to tour a few investment firms within the heart of the Seattle downtown. Organized by an alumnus, Shelly Heier, a group of 10 club members visited the companies; Badgley and Phelps, Verus Investments, Parametric Investments, and Tiedemann Wealth Management. Each company talked about how they fit into the investment landscape and what makes them unique. The variety of companies gave the club members a great idea of how many different avenues there are in the finance industry.

From this experience the club gained a vital network of industry experts across Seattle. This will be extremely useful when looking at speakers for the club going forward into future years. The content was also exceedingly useful in helping us understand the current market conditions, while giving us an understanding of what is it like to work at one of these firms. Their focus on quantitative methodology at these firms has pushed us to include more quantitative measures in our presentations, including some basic valuation methods. Overall, this experience has been vital to the growth and development of our members and our club. Going forward we plan to make this an annual event.

Russell Investments - April 2019

Hosted by the Business Leadership Program, a number of Puget Sound Investment Club members had the fortunate opportunity to spend an entire day touring Russell Investment's headquarters in Seattle. The group of Puget Sound students were able to hear from a full panel of Puget Sound alumni that all found their way to Russell. PSIC hopes host the alumni on campus for an event next school year.
