If you want a waterproof swimming companion with offline music storage for your pool or open-water sessions, choose PSIER Bone Conduction Headphones; if you need all-day battery life and a secure over-ear fit for long outdoor runs, choose Skullcandy Push 540.
• PSIER Bone Conduction Headphones: Its standout strength is true IPX8 waterproofing and built-in 32GB storage for phone-free swimming; the trade-off is a shorter 8-hour battery life per charge compared to competitors. This pick is for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts who need to disconnect from their phone entirely.
• Skullcandy Push 540: Its biggest advantage is an incredible 42-hour total battery life with a detachable neckband and rapid charging; the trade-off is only IP44 resistance, meaning it cannot be submerged in water. This pick is for serious runners and gym-goers who prioritize endurance and security over aquatic use.
The PSIER S18 is engineered for a specific niche that few other headphones on the market serve as well: underwater audio. This isn't just splash resistance; this is a device built to go into the pool, the ocean, or the shower without hesitation. However, there is a crucial operational detail you must understand before buying. When you take them underwater, Bluetooth connectivity fails. To listen while submerged, you must switch to MP3 mode via a double-click of the power button.
This design choice makes the PSIER ideal for the person who wants to keep their playlist flowing during laps but doesn't want to carry a separate MP3 player. With 32GB of internal memory, you can store up to 4,000 songs directly on the headset. You can load these tracks onto the device by connecting it to a computer, effectively turning it into a standalone music player. This is a game-changer for the "best spatial audio earphones for library" crowd, though I would argue it serves a more active role there too. If you are looking for rechargeable in ear headphones for library environments where silence is paramount, the bone conduction technology allows you to hear your music without blocking out the quiet ambiance, but the real magic here is the ability to swim.

The comfort factor also leans heavily toward extended wear. The open-ear design ensures airflow reaches your skin, preventing that sweaty, trapped feeling common with traditional earbuds. The silicone cushions are described as soft and skin-friendly, and the package includes an adjustable strap to ensure a custom fit for different head sizes. The 14mm drivers claim to deliver rich audio, and the inclusion of AI music generation through the Boean app adds a layer of modern customization that lets you tweak the EQ settings to your personal taste.
However, this versatility comes with limitations. The battery life is rated at 8 hours in Bluetooth mode, which is respectable but pales in comparison to what the Skullcandy offers. Furthermore, the lack of active noise cancellation (it explicitly lists "None" for noise control) means you will hear everything around you, which is great for safety but might not satisfy those seeking total isolation. If you are someone who needs to block out the world to focus, this open-ear design will not work for you. But if you need transparency and water resistance, this is a powerhouse.
The Skullcandy Push 540 Open takes a completely different approach, focusing on endurance and stability for land-based activities. The headline feature here is the battery life. With up to 42 hours of total listening time—combining 10 hours from the earbuds themselves and an additional 32 hours from the charging case—it is built to last through multiple days of heavy use. For the person who hates charging their gear every single night, this is a massive win. The rapid charge capability is equally impressive, offering 2 hours of listening time from just a 10-minute charge in the case.
Security is another pillar of the Push 540's design. Unlike many earbuds that rely solely on friction inside the ear canal, these feature ergonomic over-ear hooks. These hooks lock the buds in place, ensuring they don't slip out during high-intensity movements like sprinting, jumping rope, or cycling. The detachable magnetic neckband adds an extra layer of peace of mind; when you aren't using the buds, you can hang them around your neck, and the band doubles as a lanyard for the charging case. This design is perfect for the runner who needs best transparency mode earbuds for library transitions, moving seamlessly from a quiet study session to a busy street corner without fumbling for controls.
The durability rating is IP44, which protects against sweat, dust, and light rain. This is sufficient for intense gym sessions and outdoor runs in unpredictable weather, but it falls short of being a swimming device. You cannot submerge these in water. The controls are accessible via buttons and touch, and the Skullcandy App allows for deep customization of EQ presets and button configurations, giving you full control over your sound profile.
The trade-offs here are clear. While the battery is superior, the build relies on a plastic and silicone combination that, while durable, lacks the fully sealed underwater integrity of the PSIER. The driver size is slightly smaller at 12 millimeters compared to the PSIER's 14mm, though both operate within the standard 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range. The Bluetooth version is 5.3, which is solid but not the latest 6.0 found in the PSIER, potentially affecting latency slightly in high-speed scenarios. This product is for the athlete who lives on land and values longevity and fit above all else.
