Church Vision Statement
At Pendleton Street Baptist Church, we strive to Point People to Christ in all we do. In September 2025, we narrowed that scope to become a church that is "Building Authentic Community in Christ." This is based on the scripture found in Ephesians 2:11-22.
Based on that belief, our core values are:
Building:
We recognize the need for an everlasting foundation, which is Jesus Christ. “13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” (Ephesians 2:13)
We recognize the need for a blueprint that will help us accomplish this, which is the Bible, God’s holy, infallible word. “20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets…” (Ephesians 2:20a)
We recognize that the first step is a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ through salvation.” “…Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone…” (Ephesians 2:20b)
We make it known that we are building by sharing with our community, that is through baptism and our witness. “21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.” (Ephesians 2:21)
We recognize that we will continue building until glorification, when we see Jesus face to face. “22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:22)
Authentic:
We are honest with God, ourselves, and others about our walk, shortcomings, and triumphs. “11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision…” (Ephesians 2:11a)
We strive to share our story, that is our testimony, with all who will hear offering the hope that lies within. “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
We are kind and loving others fulfilling the Greatest Commandment, which is to Love God and love others. “37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
Community:
We seek to build community with God first, our spouse, our children, our family, our church family, and the world. “but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God…” (Ephesians 2:19b)
We seek to be discipled and to disciple others, fulfilling Matthew 28. “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19a)
We recognize and appreciate differences while holding fast and living out the truth in Christ. “19 For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. 21 To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” (1 Cor. 9:19-23)
We strive to share and exemplify Christ within the communities God has given us. “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19a)
We give sacrificially to the local church to provide in fulfilling the Great Commission. “10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” (Malachi 3:10)
In Christ:
We recognize everything points back to Jesus. “2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)
We recognize our sin and need for a savior. “23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (Romans 3:23)
We recognize him as the only way to the Father and to be made in right relationship with our creator. “8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
We recognize him as the only way to salvation. “16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
We seek to follow him as scripture commands us. 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)
We pray and seek his will for everything in our lives. “5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
