Based on your response and my reading the 4.88 gearing is the way to go. When I climb a hill I will select a gear on the automatic that keeps the tachometer at 2800 - 3000 RPM and take my time. The 22RE engine is a work horse. One more question. There is a system that locks out 4th gear when the vehicle is above 2500 feet in altitude or so. Would you recommend disabling it if I use 4.88 gearing, and if so where would I research how to correctly do it.

From my (poor) memory, 4.56:1 was installed in forerunners with 33"(?) tires, so will be found in the junkyard (perhaps with difficulty). I don't remember if 4.88:1 was a factory option so might only be available as a ring & pinion, which will be way more expensive (and difficult) to install correctly. Will the extra ~7% change in gearing (4.56:1 vs 4.88:1) really be worth the extra? Up to you to decide.

Well, without going back to look again, Car-Part.com had carriers with 4.88:1 gears starting at $200. You'd have to call around to see what people would charge to install. I'd start by phoning places that cater to the 4x4 crowd.

All the V6's differentials are 4 pinion and they were used to upgrade to a full floater so they must fit. Same differential came in all turbo's standard and they were 22re engines. Only 4x4's had 4.88 differentials though so you have to source one from there and the 4.88 wasn't available until 1992. Same diff on some 4runners too. This gearing is probably too low for a 22re automatic though. Better off with more widely available 4.56

(1) Obsoleted IRM 4.88.1 because part of the IRM was included in IRM 4.70. The other subsections were either obsolete due to policy changes, placed in ITG Technical Resource Guides or found in other IRMs. The table below shows where each subsection can be found:

The NAR reports: February Existing-Home Sales Decline

Existing-home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, dropped 9.6 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.88 million in February from an upwardly revised 5.40 million in January, and are 2.8 percent below the 5.02 million pace in February 2010.

...

Total housing inventory at the end of February rose 3.5 percent to 3.49 million existing homes available for sale, which represents an 8.6-month supply at the current sales pace, up from a 7.5-month supply in January. Click on graph for larger image in new window.

This graph shows existing home sales, on a Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR) basis since 1993.

Sales in February 2011 (4.88 million SAAR) were 9.6% lower than last month, and were 2.8% lower than February 2010.

The second graph shows nationwide inventory for existing homes.

According to the NAR, inventory increased to 3.49 million in February from 3.37 million in January.

Inventory is not seasonally adjusted and there is a clear seasonal pattern with inventory peaking in the summer and declining in the fall and winter. Inventory will probably increase significantly over the next several months.

The last graph shows the 'months of supply' metric.

Months of supply increased to 8.6 months in February up from 7.5 months in January. The months of supply will probably increase over the next few months as inventory increases. This is higher than normal.

Special Note: Back in January, I noted that it appeared the NAR had overestimated sales by 5% or so in 2007, and that the errors had increased since then (perhaps 10% or 15% or more in 2009 and 2010). I reported in January that the NAR was working on benchmarking existing home sales for earlier years with other industry data, and I expected "this effort will lead to significant downward revisions to previously reported sales". The numbers reported today were estimated using the old method and will probably be revised down significantly, but they are still useful on a month-to-month basis.

These sales numbers were below the consensus of 5.15 million SAAR, and are slightly below what I expected (Lawler's forecast was 5 million). I'll have more soon.

Isoelectric variants of Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase (Cu,Zn-SOD) have been reported to exist in various organs including rat liver. To elucidate the biochemical characteristics of the variants, rat liver Cu,Zn-SOD was purified and isolated into eight variants, i.e., pI 5.15, 4.88, 4.80, 4.75, 4.70, 4.65, 4.60, and 4.50. The pI 4.88 variant had the highest specific activity (4245 U/mg protein) and the highest yield (45% of original activity). The descending order of specific activity for the other variants was pI 4.80, 4.75, 5.15, 4.70, 4.65, 4.60, and 4.50. The specific activity correlated well with metal content. The specific activity for most variants was 5-9 times greater when determined at pH 10.0 than at pH 7.8. However, three preparations of pI 4.80 and 4.70 variants had 13.9-16.3 times greater specific activity at pH 10.0 versus 7.8, while one of the pI 4.60 variants was only 3.5 times greater. The rate of Coomasie brilliant blue G-250 binding was lowest with pI 4.88 followed by pIs 4.80 and 4.75. To evaluate the mechanisms which might produce these variants, the pI 4.88 variant was incubated with xanthine-xanthine oxidase or a mixture of rat liver microsome, NADPH, and sodium azide, and a shift to variants pI 4.80 and pI 4.75 was found. The shift was greatly inhibited by the presence of mannitol or by the omitting of azide, respectively. The existence of these variants was also confirmed by other methods: (i) direct application of rat liver 105,000g supernatant to an isoelectric focusing, and (ii) extraction of SOD from acetone powder prepared from rat liver homogenate. Results indicate that several variants most likely arise in tissue as a result of activated oxygen radical modification of variant pI 4.88. ff782bc1db
