Introduction to Provision Alliance
The goal of the NGO is to produce competent, resourceful and driven youth that enter society with confidence and understanding. We are primarily aimed at uplifting the youth and breaking the cycles of poverty through illuminating a path to financial freedom in a career that is sustainable for their strengths. This will be achieved through the discovery of self and access to opportunity. Our primary role is creating awareness of and improving access to services and resources that already are well-established within NGOs, private and public institutions. This will be achieved through a 3-pronged approach: inspiring them and improving self belief, helping them understand their strengths and passions and helping to guide them towards a specific goal. The first step is to address students through public speaking to make them aware that there are individuals that have come from similar circumstances and were able to gain financial freedom and thus inspire them to imagine a life beyond their current circumstances. The second step is to help them understand their strengths and individuality through utilising a career guidance app which will outline worker type based on their personality and which career path is best suited for them. Once a student has an idea of the careers they are interested in, they will engage with a ChatGPT bot trained to illuminate a clear path by providing information ranging from what the job entails, working hours and salary to required qualifications, proficiencies to subjects needed for tertiary education and results needed for bursaries and scholarships etc. Once the career path is has been forged, we formulate an individualised step-by-step plan in reaching their career and support them by providing informative workshops and referring to NGOs and institutions that provide services which help alleviate biopsychosocial barriers to their success. This NGO is not only focused on academically gifted youth and focuses on helping all kinds of individuals visualize and work towards a future/profession that best suites them.
Our short-medium term goals are orientated around bridging the information gap among underprivileged youth regarding funding opportunities, career paths, and life skills. By providing them with access to resources and mentorship, we can empower them to make informed decisions about their future and achieve our long term objectives.
Goal #1 - Improve perspective and Inspire:
Create awareness around the possibility of success through public speaking by individuals who come from similar circumstances and how their journey unfolded towards financial freedom
Our main stream of function is working alongside high schools. Our pilot school is Rocklands High School. Our founder, Dr Mogamat Junaid Ismail, will be addressing the students and sharing the obstacles he faced, how he overcame it through hard work, determination and support, and the lessons he learned along his journey.
We want to bring society's difficulties students in these communities face and to to bring to the attention of the students that there are many role models who have forged a path to success and show them it is possible. Through various media sources, we want to share the stories of our students, and expose them to inspirational individuals.
Goal #2 - Improve understand of self & strengths:
Provide resources for students to better understand their personality types and strengths and associated career matches.
We will utilize a paid career guidance app called Yenza which is developed to be accessible for all South Africans through its availability in English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa and isiZulu.
The app uses aptitude type assessments and provides insights on personality, strengths, career matches. These careers will further be explored through research, job shadow and mentoring/guidance by a professional in the field.
Goal #3 - Provide easily accessible information:
Develop AI/ChatGPT type bot that will provide information on types of jobs, related courses, subjects required in school in a structured way/with established prompt algorithms
The ChatGPT/AI bot will be develops by a private company. The bot will be accessible via Whatsapp and will allow us to input student data from Yenza App assessment and will interpret their worker type and suggested careers. It will then outline important information such as academic requirements, documents needed and deadlines, identify relevant bursary/learnership/scholarship opportunities and prompt them through the process of application for tertiary institutions and respective bursaries/learnerships/scholarships.
The AI bot will also be programmed to connect to youth development programs and NGOs that that are aligned with developing required skills for chosen/most suitable career choice to help maximize utilization of available resources.
Goal #4 - Provide access to services:
Create a database of contact information to relevant services by centralising all NGOs in the western cape which are aimed at alleviating student barriers such as lack of accommodation, clothing, stationary, food, water, books, mental health services and social services.
We have a website that we will continuously update with information on different fields of work, available courses and funding, and NGOs providing a myriad of services.
We want to train our ChatGPT/AI bot to suggest these NGO services to students by promoting their needs/obstacles and providing solutions
Goal #5 - Improve academic prowess and tertiary study readiness:
Provide workshops tailored to academic needs such as Academic Skill-Building Workshops focusing on effective studying skills, critical thinking skills, reading & writing, maths & science enrichment as well as technology & digital literacy
One of the biggest problems is that in under-resourced schools, students are not taught HOW to learn, and through in person and online workshops as well as multimedia efforts, we aim to improve the skill of learning.
Goal #6 - Improve work readiness:
Provide workshops to develop skills surrounding CV development, branding, interviewing skills and social profiles eg Linkdin
Most students leave matric or event their tertiary studies not knowing how to complete a CV, how to conduct an interview or band themselves. Our team of young professionals have experience in these skills that we will impart on students through our mentorship program.
The long term objectives are to mitigate problems that plague the Cape Flats community through direct and indirect means:
Objective 1 - Alleviate Poverty & reduce unemployment:
The area is marked by widespread poverty and a lack of economic opportunities. Unemployment rates are high, making it difficult for many residents to access basic necessities and escape the cycle of poverty. We aim to access to local NGOs/institutions who provide entrepreneurial and soft skills development and improve access of tertiary studies to alleviate reduce unemployment rates, create jobs and ultimately poverty.
Objective 2 – Reduce education disparities:
Schools in the Cape Flats often suffer from inadequate resources and infrastructure, resulting in poor-quality education. Limited access to quality education opportunities hampers the potential for upward mobility and personal growth for many young people. We want to provide access to tutoring, effective study and critical thinking skills workshops as well as technology and literacy workshops to improve students’ learning abilities and supplement public schooling practices.
Objective 3 - Eradicate substance abuse among youth:
Substance abuse, particularly with drugs like tik (methamphetamine), is prevalent in the community. Addiction issues have far-reaching consequences on individuals, families, and the overall community. We want to keep the youth away from substances creating awareness, educating them on the dangers and consequences of substance abuse and proving information on rehabilitation services available.
Objective 4 – Reduce gang involvement:
The prevalence of gang culture and recruitment of young people into gangs perpetuates violence and criminal activities, leading to a cycle of violence and instability. We want to reduce the number of youth getting involved with gangs through education and awareness of its dangers and alternative choices available.
Objective 5 – Attract Community Development:
