Research
We use public records, historic newspapers, maps, aerial photographs, property records, archives and other sources to piece together the history of a place or community.
Community Knowledge
Local residents often know things that never made it into an official record. Their memories, photographs and family stories can fill in the gaps.
Documentation
We photograph, record, map and organize what we find so that the information is easier to preserve and share.
Public Access
Whenever possible, PRF turns that research into posts, resources, community projects and website collections that people can actually use.

Why It Matters
Once a place is gone, a cemetery is lost, or the people who remember a story are no longer here, pieces of local history can disappear with them.
Preservation does not always mean saving a building or putting up a historical marker. Sometimes it means finding the names, recording the story, identifying the location, saving the photographs, or making sure the information can still be found years from now.
Rural communities deserve to have their history documented with the same care as anywhere else.
