Before you hand over card details for a travel eSIM, it is worth spending five minutes confirming that the product, the device and the discount will all work together. Nothing else matters if your handset cannot hold an eSIM profile. Two conditions must both be true: the phone supports eSIM, and it is carrier-unlocked. Broadly, compatible devices include most iPhones from the XR onwards, recent Google Pixels, and the Samsung Galaxy S20 and later.
If your device passes, note that it can store multiple eSIMs at once, each with a different carrier and data plan. The installed Holafly profile shows up in phone settings under Cellular or SIM manager as a second line.
Holafly sells two different things, and the discount applies at different rates to each.
Travel eSIMs are prepaid, single-trip data for one destination, a region, or global coverage, across 200+ destinations. Day-length options are typically 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 and 30 days. The code takes 5% off these.
Holafly Plans are rolling Monthly or Yearly subscriptions aimed at frequent travellers, with data options of Light (25 GB), Unlimited Data, or the All In Plan covering trains and planes. Plans start around $49.90 a month, and the code takes 10% off for the first 12 months.
Decide which category fits your trip before you reach checkout, because the discount rate and the commitment attached to each are not the same.
Several Holafly conditions relate to when things start, and they catch people out if checked after payment rather than before:
A Travel eSIM's day count is a duration that begins when the eSIM is activated at your destination, not when you buy it.
Plans activate immediately upon purchase and stay valid for 30 days from the purchase date. Buying in advance starts activation straight away, not on a future date.
Plans renew automatically each month for another 30-day cycle.
Once purchased, an eSIM cannot be returned.
Monthly plans can be cancelled at any time with no fees or long-term commitment; annual plans carry a 12-month commitment period. Cancellation is handled from the account panel or user profile, not by email. Switching to a different plan means cancelling the existing one and buying a new one.
Only one promo code can be applied per purchase, so there is no stacking with another offer. Have that settled before checkout.
For a Travel eSIM, pick the destination, data amount, duration and quantity, then press the green button (for example "Get unlimited internet") to reach the cart summary. The "Discount code" field sits on the cart or checkout summary panel, below the line items and above the total. Type TECHREVIEW in and tap the arrow (→) rather than pressing Enter. Retyping the code manually rather than pasting avoids trailing-space match failures.
For a Plan, tap "Get connected now" on the Plans page, choose Monthly or Yearly, select the data option, tap "Buy it now", then apply the code in the same discount field on the payment step.
In both cases, confirm the total actually drops before you move on to payment.
You do not need to create an account or log in before buying a Travel eSIM. The eSIM is sent to whichever email address you enter, so make sure it is one you can open while travelling. You will also need a billing address and a payment method: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal and others are accepted.
After purchase, the QR code is generated and sent by email, and also appears in the Holafly app. Install over Wi-Fi before flying. You can either use the app's one-button guided flow, or scan the QR code, or long-press it and follow the prompts. Once installed, set the Holafly line for mobile data and turn data roaming on for the Holafly line only. eSIMs and plans are managed afterwards in the app under the "Plans" section.
The refund window and any minimum spend are not stated here and should be checked on Holafly's terms page, since conditions can vary by product and region. Note also that unlimited plans deliver high-speed data subject to fair-use network management.
