Project Valentine was started almost 20 years ago when our friend, Colleen Anderson was going through chemotherapy for ovarian cancer. She gave a few Valentine gift bags to her oncology center on Valentine's Day. The following year she asked a few friends for help to make more and 30 gift bags were distributed. From there, Project Valentine grew to giving almost 600 bags to people having infusions all over the Denver metro area on Valentine's Day to help make their lives a little sweeter. Then the world changed with COVID and Project Valentine was put on pause.
Rita and her husband Joe were big volunteers for Project Valentine but in 2020, Joe was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a terminal form of brain cancer. Joe passed away in 2022. A month later, our dear friend and Project Valentine's treasurer Quentin, was diagnosed with glioblastoma. He passed away in 2024 as well as another dear volunteer, Michelle, of cervical cancer. This year, 2025, will be our last hurrah as we feel lucky to spend a generous anonymous donation to continue to sweeten people's lives who are in an infusion center on Valentine's day.
