Impact Through Art
Project Sining aims to utilize art and creativity to tackle various problems that children face in areas across Northern Luzon. To accomplish this, I will garner school supplies, art supplies, and monetary aid through art related initiatives within my local community. In the end, I hope that this will bring light to the issues that children all over the Philippines face and make positive changes in the lives of many.
People from all over Northern Luzon rely heavily on the hospitals in and around the Summer Capitol of the Philippines. As storms larger than the country itself tear through vulnerable communities, hospitals are susceptible to overcrowding, poor quality of care, and lack of resources and funding. This leaves families in tough situations, negatively impacting their physical and emotional health.
The school children within Bayombong, and the province of Nueva Vizcaya as a whole, face many problems when pursuing education. A widespread problem within this city is bullying. There are several documented instances of bullying within these schools, many of which were covered by trusted news sites and the Department of Education in the Philippines. This issue has significant emotional consequences on the children living in this area, and gets in the way of the education that these children should be receiving.
Additionally, students that go to Pinayag National High School, a school in the rural mountains surrounding Bayombong, face dangerous conditions when commuting to school. A video was released showing these students crossing raging rivers on cables. Additionally, the children here do not have stable housing, with many of them living with teachers and constantly changing living arrangements.
I'm working with several small artists from the Central Florida area to create a series of stickers. I plan on selling these stickers to raise funds for Pinayag National High School. Based on the school's choice, these funds will go to either the construction of a bridge, construction of a dormitory, or the general safety of their students.
I will work with several high schools located across Orlando, Florida where the students will write letters meant to promote respect between students in the Philippines. These letters will feature drawings and a short paragraph. Once completed, the students in Orlando will gain additional extra credit in their courses.
Through school and art supply donations, I will put together a series of care packages for children in the hospitals and schools in these areas. For the students at Pinayag National High School, these care packages will include additional first aid supplies. With these, I hope to promote art therapy for children going through tough situations.
I plan on expanding PHI's established Medical Donations Program to Baguio and their hospitals. While not directly art related, I see this as a simple way to target the issues that large Baguio hospitals, such as BGHMC, face by going for the source of the problems.
The artists hard at work!
For Project Sining, the end goal is to bridge gaps in health and education through art, creativity and community. A huge part of this initiative purposely depends heavily on those who might not know the struggles that many Filipinos face. By doing this, it spreads awareness of these struggles outside of its current bubble. Through art and creation, many have found peace and an outlet. The same could be true for families and children in Baguio and Bayombong. Overall, I want this project to be a source of inspiration for people in my community, and the people in my family's communities, even if they happen to be on opposite sides of the world.

Of the funds raised, 75% of them will go towards this initiative, and the other 25% will go towards PHI and our other programs.

Thank you for the support, we appreciate it very much :))
Over the past couple of weeks, some students in the Pre Med Club at Lake Nona High School had the opportunity to create meaningful letters for their peers in Bayombong! This club's purpose is to provide aspiring healthcare professionals with opportunities and resources to explore careers in medicine and related fields. PHI and I are very grateful for their hard work!
These letters include lovely drawings created by the students, as well as meaningful messages that are meant to uplift and encourage respect amongst their Filipino counterparts.
Thank you to Lake Nona High School for your impact!

Hello! My name is Kayla, and I am a student at the University of Central Florida studying engineering. In my free time, I love drawing (obviously!), playing video games, reading, and spending time with my closest family and friends.
I chose to focus on both Baguio and Bayombong because they are both cities that I have close ties to. My family lives in Bayombong, so that is where I spent most of my time when in the Philippines. When I went to visit, we also took a roadtrip to Baguio where I got to see the beautiful Summer Capitol for myself.
