Project Selection

Where can I learn more about a project?

You can find more information about projects such as who the product owner is on the project listing page. You may need to select the project page that matches your major to see the information.

When will I be placed in a project?

You will receive an email stating your project placement about a day after you submit your project preferences.

When should I submit my project preferences?

You can submit your preferences at any time during the first week of the semester. The selection algorithm is set up such that it doesn't matter what time of day you submit your project so that you have time to consider your options. In other words, staying up until midnight to get your first pick won't do anything for you. However, you should submit your preferences earlier in the week since availability issues do still become more prevalent each day that passes.

Can I change my project?

Yes! Simply resubmit the form before the end of the week.

Can students from different majors be on the same project?

Sadly, students from differing majors cannot share a project. This is so that students can learn skills specific to their major during the project. Even if you used to be in a project with multiple majors, you can't continue that project unless it matches your major now.

What does an AWS project entail?

AWS projects are created when there aren't enough project options. They rely on AWS Academy and have you make your project idea later in the semester. While this does leave you with less time to develop the project, the goal of this project is to leave you with an AWS certificate and some software development artifacts at the end of the semester.

Team Members

Who is the lead and what do they do?

Your team decides which of you will become the main lead. If you are lead, make sure to email the professor to let him know your new role so your responsibilities can begin.
As lead you will be responsible for:

Keeping the professor up to date with weekly health reports and contribution/participation feedback about members of the team.
Organizing and leading meetings.
Maintaining agile methodology practices.
Helping team members overcome hurdles.

How do I get in touch with other project members?

Once you are placed in a project, you will receive an email stating your project placement and current fellow members. As project selection continues, you may get updates about if students have left/joined your project. These emails will contain contact information for each student and the product owner.

Meetings

Do we need to complete daily meetings on holidays?

No, if holidays occur during a sprint, the number of required dailies is decreased to account for those holidays. Your team isn't prohibited from meeting on a holiday if they would like to anyway, but it is not mandatory.

Why are there daily assignments on the weekends?

Despite the norm of completing dailies on weekdays, sometimes teams prefer to do weekend dailies. Because of this, meeting assignments are structured to be accommodating to all types of team schedules while also maintaining a sprint format. Your team will not be penalized for ignoring daily submissions on the weekends as long as the number of dailies for that sprint is at least 10.
