Project SCENES
Purpose
Project SCENES was developed with the intent to increase the number of special education professionals and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) working in New Mexico (NM) early intervention and early childhood special education contexts who have specialized knowledge of social communication interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
The project will support graduate students in the University of New Mexico's Special Education and Speech and Hearing Sciences departments who are interested in working with children with ASD.
Students will receive specialized coursework, clinical experience, and leadership training in the following core competencies :
evidence-based practices for ASD,
naturalistic intervention methods
typical language development and intensive communication supports
collaborative approaches for working with culturally and linguistically diverse families and
interdisciplinary training
