Project Portunus is one of the many senior capstone projects at UCSB. Project Portunus focuses on developing a plug-and-play module for your car that allows you to remotely control your car using your phone.
Project Portunus uses the OBD-II diagnostics port in your car to communicate with all its electrical systems. By sending messages between the systems, the module is able to perform functions such as locking and unlocking your vehicle. Currently, the module is in development for Ford vehicles
Portunus is the Roman god of keys and doors. The Project Portunus module primarily is centered on remotely locking and unlocking car doors, hence the reference to Portunus.
Depending on the progress of the project, the module may be for sale
