Project LightShade is a youth-led initiative created to advocate for sun safety and skincare equity — especially for Black and brown communities.
Despite the common myth that melanin protects you from the sun, Black and brown people can still suffer from sun damage, skin cancer, and hyperpigmentation. But the skincare industry has too often ignored us. We’re here to change that.
Our mission is to protect melanin through:
Education about UV exposure and proper sun protection
Access to skin-safe products and culturally competent skincare tools
Inclusion in health and skincare spaces that have long overlooked us
Who We Serve:
Why We Exist:
Because sun safety isn’t optional. Because Black and brown skin deserves more. Because protecting your skin shouldn’t feel like a luxury — it should be a right.
