ECE 196 is a new course designed for students to gain hands-on engineering experience through projects in team building environments. In the first five weeks, students work in groups of two to build projects that incorporate a combination of electrical and mechanical engineering (Guitar Effects, Binary Clock, Robotic Arm, Solar Tracker). In the last five weeks of class, students work in teams of four to develop a new project or improve upon an existing project. In the course of one quarter, students work on a total of four projects that will test their ability to problem solve, learn, and engineer.
Project-in-a-box is the student development team behind ECE 196 and ECE 188. We are a team of student engineers whose goal is to improve the hands-on education at UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering. We design and develop all of the projects that would eventually be used in ECE 196 or ECE 188. Currently, we have completed 7 projects that include (Guitar Effects, Binary Clock, Solar Tracker, Robotic Arm, Smart Mirror, IR Whiteboard, Arcade Emulator, etc.) and have nearly 15 active projects in progress.
Currently, there are two avenues of involvement:
