Welcome to Arcology: Alaska, Gem's cyberpunk setting, a megastructure in the frozen north.
Threatened by advancing climate change problems, much of the world made the decision to move into Climate Bunkers until the changes could be reversed, accommodated, or an off-world solution was ready. In their haste to create these fortifications many shortcuts were taken, resources were over consumed, and many of the projects had to be abandoned. Arcology: Alaska was finished enough, deemed safe for habitation, and populated. Much of the mega-structure is bitter cold, food is scarce, and there is nothing except snow outside the walls.
A maze of dull concrete and steel speckled with pockets of white-hot neon light. Streets are narrow, foot space is dense, crowds are thick, and there are surprises around every corner. Arcology Alaska is a massive city-structure but anywhere you'd want to be is going to be pretty crowded. The lights attract people like moths to a flame and they stay there because of the warmth of so many bodies.
A hot spot of high fashion and social transactions. The brilliant lights cover twisting alleyways as in-your-face displays give way to a dark and practical underbelly. On the surface you'll find glittering fame seekers shoving their faces at anything with a lens but take a few right (or wrong) turns and you might end up somewhere discreet negotiating the details of your next job.
