OUR STORY

Child abuse in all its forms and manifestations is a global issue that has been highly misunderstood and underestimated over the years.

It is extremely prevalent in India as well, where it is rooted in social, economic and cultural practices to a great extent.

It's impact is ever-lasting, and hampers the child's development.

1 in 5 children is abused before the age of 18. However it is also proven that age-appropriate conversations on difficult topics such as child sexual abuse reduce the risk for abuse. So, I started Project Amity, to raise awareness on child abuse, child safety, unsafe touches, online safety and much more.

Project Amity aims to educate young children and encourage them to openly talk about abuse and empower those around them to do the same.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

Till date, I have conducted 4 awareness sessions in schools and communities of Bangalore. While there are sessions conducted in schools on good touch/bad touch, young children aren't taught about abuse. So, I designed a curriculum that covers all topics related to child abuse and child safety in a kid-friendly language.

It is easy to tell a child to tell an adult if someone touches them inappropriately but it's not easy for a child to do so. With the help of videos, activities, and role-plays we help children practice telling and talking about all forms of abuse. The response from these sessions has been extremely positive and gratifying.
