Project Selenelion is an organization dedicated toward combatting the damaging effects of burnout and academic stress. Our mission is to create a supportive community and provide resources to empower students so they can prioritize their mental health while still pursuing academic goals. Through innovative programs and campaigns, we hope to help students develop more resilience and foster a sense of self-growth. Together, we strive to create an environment where students can thrive and burn bright, not out.
A selenelion is a phenomenon that occurs during every lunar eclipse. At this time, both the Sun and Moon will appear just above opposite horizons at nearly opposite points in the sky. The clarity of both the Sun and the Moon at the same time symbolizes equilibrium and harmony. It reminds us of the significance of balance in our own lives. By maintaining equilibrium between work, rest, and self-care, we can prevent burnout and nurture our overall well-being, which is what Project Selenelion is all about.

Karen Brockest is a vice principal at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School, previously working with students regarding various aspects of mental health. She is currently part of the school's mental health committee, hosting events regularly to educate and promote the wellbeing of the community. Through our team's productive meetings with Ms. Brockest, we have expanded our understanding of mental health and contributing factors to academic burnout. Her knowledge and insight allowed us to bring Project Selenelion to what it is today.
