In 2018, MSc student Amy Willmont gathered three differnt sources of maps and geo-rectified the maps as part of her MSc project.
Final Geo-rectification of bog maps
Results:
Amy geo-referenced all 49 maps using three different sources of maps. Despite this the average map error (as RMSE) was only 42 metres. Ranging from 5.7 to 181m.
Most importantly she showed the influence of adequate ground control points on the resulting map error. the more control points spread across the map, the better the results.
In addition, some maps were folded and this lowered the accuracy of the maps.
