Project Puritas is a private endeavor to automate the cleaning up of Puritan and Reformed texts transcribed by the Early English Books Online (EEBO) project. These texts were typed up but still had the original non-standard spelling of the era, which makes searching, using, or reading the works cumbersome. Basically we turned this into this:

We have identified about 26,000 of the most common non-standard spellings in about 7,000 works and have corrected those, cleaned the texts, and converted them to Word, PDF, EPUB, and HTML formats available below. Over 23 million individual instances of those words have been corrected! It's not perfect, but it's an enormous improvement and, importantly, it's available.

These texts are available for free, but attribution would be appreciated.

It is our hope that this will provide a treasure trove of writings for the interested reader, and a good base text for aspiring or established publishers.
