Our Mental Health Consultants (MHCs) played a vital role in ensuring the success of Project Positivity with their guidance and expertise in psychology and mental health. Throughout our campaign, they also helped us understand the importance of mental health awareness and providing resources for self-care and support in school settings with adolescents.
Dr. Carlson earned her doctoral degree in counseling psychology in 2007 from the University of St. Thomas. She earned her master's degree in community counseling with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy in 1999. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health System in Brainerd, Minnesota in consortium with the Pediatrics Psychology Internship where she completed psychological, cognitive, and neuropsychological assessments for children and adolescents.
She has worked in multiple settings, including hospitals and schools where she has provided several assessment and treatment services, including developing and implementing programming for adolescents and young adults. Areas of expertise include trauma, brain development, attachment, adoption, developmental issues, treatment program development, mood disorders, and relationship issues.
Heather Schroeder has dedicated 24 years of her career as a School Social Worker at Shakopee High School, where she passionately advocates for mental health and well-being. With a deep commitment to fostering resilience and nurturing the emotional wellness of both students and staff, Heather embodies the spirit of compassion and empathy in her role. As a Club Advisor for Saber Pause and The Bandana Project, Heather provides a safe space for students to express themselves and cultivates a sense of belonging and community, empowering students to prioritize their mental health and support one another.
Heather's work extends beyond the confines of her office, as she actively collaborates with faculty, parents, and community members to create a culture of well-being within Shakopee High School. Her innovative approaches to promoting mental health awareness and resilience resonate throughout the school, inspiring positive change and fostering a supportive environment for all.
