Boarding School Availability (Call it what it is-Students at some point require flexibility regarding housing)
To address the wide variety of income brackets and home life situations, providing funded University of Alberta style dormitories to allow for going back to school to reach a metriculated diploma and begin retraining, may be a viable option in the future. The ability to maintain lives and livelihoods whilst pursuing a post secondary compatible education is essential. Alberta’s a Progressive Conservatives lead by creating access to opportunity, boarding school accommodations in the United Kingdom are considered to be common place. Uk universities allow for students to retool, retrain and only pay back the amount of income that the degree leads to. More than less Great Britain is a global leader in providing University in a way that works for the many not the privileged few. The cost of not retraining individuals such as doctors who develop tremors, WCB patients that fall under a burden to accommodate and other such circumstances can and should be mitigated as best as possible. By addressing the needs of the future, the Progressive Conservatives have demonstrated that change for the better is possible. Increasing the access to more and more opportunity is why the UCP is the leader in Canadian Provincial Politics.
High School Education Reform:
Adding 1 year full-time work experience to high school Education. Making the minimum age for completing high school 1 year later than presently. All high school courses need to feature a fast-track review of junior high level courses in entry-level courses. The courses also need to begin transitioning back to full semester courses.
As part of junior high school and up all students are to receive full prosperity benefits. The basic income requirement adds freedom to succeed. It provides financial supports for technology, as well as food, while fostering independence. Additional accommodation options from 16 up should be made for students to live in residence, in order to foster independence early. The goal of the government is to make sure to better deliver upon creating a promising future for more and more students.
University level courses are to be taken in high school all together with a faster program designed to complete up to a full degree for more motivated and otherwise gifted students. Courses for training students to get drivers licenses and give them practice to help students whose parents are not willing to drive them need to be available.
With substantial investments in education, I am confident that the future of Alberta’s is a brighter one.
Increasing Independence and Better Decision Making Skills
Due to drug consumption (cannabis) and alcohol consumption, a student alcohol and cannabis license needs to be provided. While low quantities of alcohol are regularly consumed by underaged minors they can lead to criminal charges and unnecessarily disrupt the lives of Alberta’s student population. The prevelance of underaged drinking is high enough to warrant making changes existing laws to make safe consumption more open. Students are otherwise well behaved. In germany the legal drinking age is 16. Nightclubs should continue to have an 18 plus requirement inorder to best maintain safe drinking practices. In addition higher quantities of alcohol can and should be available for older, more mature adults whom are best capable of making choices over how to safely use cannabis and alcohol.
Lowering the voting age to 14
If you can drive, you can vote. Issues effect the independent lives of students. Without having the representation and ability to participate in the electoral process, it would not provide the same level of feedback as to how the quality of our education and social service is based on current government policy. By making sure to allow students and teacher the ability to shape the future. It allows the same educators that have shaped our province continue impacting the changes that they see everyday. Governments rely on feedback and promoting discussion among educators and their students helps make this process more effective.
The main target of the Conservative government is delivering the values we share through choosing the options that all ready work.
University
Funding a full 4 year degree would require implementing that year 1 would be grade 13, with year 2 as grade 14, year 3 as grade 15,and year 4 as grade 16.
Standardization of testing should match that of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and the Alberta Highschool Diploma Examinations. I would also personally reccomend that Macewan and Nait become the U of A Macewan Campus, as well as the U of A Nait Campus. I would look to have accreditation of degrees from private colleges be subject to the same standardized testing. I would look at whether or not these options outside of the main Alberta Campus' are worth incorporating as they may be with public and Catholic schools at a Pre-University level.
