EUNICE CORPORATION
EUNICE CORPORATION
Eunice Corporation was an American biotechnology company founded in Reno, Nevada in 1984 by John Brosnan and Roger Corman. For nearly a decade, the corporation presented itself as an agricultural research company focused on improving food production through genetic engineering and advanced biotechnology. Publicly, its projects included enhanced crops, livestock development, agricultural chemicals, and medical research.
Following the Climax Incident in May 1993, federal investigators discovered that many of the corporation's most significant activities had been concealed from regulators, investors, and the public. Recovered records revealed that Eunice Corporation had expanded far beyond agricultural research. Internal projects included accelerated growth technologies, experimental medical treatments, prehistoric DNA reconstruction, and the creation of genetically engineered organisms.
Today, Eunice Corporation is primarily remembered for its role in Project Lazarus and the events that led to the Climax and California Incidents.
Eunice Corporation is founded in Reno, Nevada.
The company develops pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified crops, and enhanced fruit varieties.
Construction begins on the Climax Research Facility near Climax, Nevada.
Project Eden, an experimental disease treatment program, is suspended following catastrophic testing failures.
Commercial release of the company's genetically engineered poultry line.
Internal records indicate that Project Lazarus officially begins.
Containment failure at the Climax Research Facility results in the Climax Incident.
Eunice filed for bankruptcy after losing all funding from investors.
Federal investigators discover a hidden underground laboratory beneath the destroyed Climax facility.
Federal investigators identified five primary research divisions operating within Eunice Corporation.
Although several divisions conducted legitimate agricultural research, evidence suggests that technologies developed by these departments were frequently repurposed for more experimental programs.
The Agricultural Chemistry Division was responsible for the development of pesticides, fertilizers, and crop treatment products.
Many of Eunice's earliest commercial successes originated within this division.
Investigators later noted that several experimental chemical programs produced unexpected biological effects among exposed organisms, including altered behavior and abnormal growth patterns.
The Botanical Genetics Division focused on genetically engineered fruits and crops.
Research programs initially involved blueberries before expanding to strawberries, apples, grapes, oranges, peaches, wheat, rice, potatoes, soybeans, and corn.
The division was directed by Adam Simon and became one of the corporation's most productive research departments.
Many genetic engineering techniques later used within Project Lazarus originated from early botanical research programs.
This division developed genetically modified poultry intended to increase agricultural efficiency. Researchers successfully engineered chickens capable of accelerated growth, asexual reproduction and increased productivity. Federal investigators later concluded that many growth technologies developed within this division served as the foundation for future reconstruction projects.
The Biomedical Research Division was responsible for medical biotechnology research.
Its largest undertaking was Project Eden, an attempt to create a universal therapeutic compound capable of treating multiple diseases through accelerated cellular regeneration.
The project was abandoned following severe biological complications.
Investigators later identified similarities between Project Eden research and technologies used within Project Lazarus.
The Paleogenetics Division operated with minimal public oversight and appears to have been largely hidden from external regulators.
Its primary objective was the reconstruction of extinct organisms using fragmented prehistoric DNA, synthetic growth systems, and genetically modified avian embryos.
The division oversaw Project Lazarus.
Federal investigations concluded that the majority of reconstructed animals involved in later outbreaks originated from this division.
The Climax Research Facility served as the primary headquarters of Eunice Corporation from 1987 until its destruction during the Climax Incident in 1993.
Located several miles outside the town of Climax, Nevada, the facility was selected due to its isolation and proximity to regional mining infrastructure.
Evidence recovered after the incident indicates that Eunice maintained several additional facilities throughout the western United States. However, the Climax complex appears to have functioned as the corporation's primary research center and housed many of its most advanced projects.
The visible facility consisted of multiple laboratory buildings, administrative offices, storage warehouses, livestock testing sectors, and agricultural research areas.
Most employees worked exclusively within these upper levels.
Government inspections, investor tours, and public demonstrations were limited to these portions of the facility.
For years, investigators believed these structures represented the entirety of Eunice's operations.
In 1996, investigators searching the ruins of the Climax facility discovered evidence of a previously undocumented underground laboratory system.
Located approximately 240 feet below the surface, the complex had been intentionally concealed from regulators and government inspectors.
Recovered documents revealed that the underground facility contained:
• Geothermal power systems
• Reinforced containment laboratories
• Biological specimen storage vaults
• Executive research sectors
• Emergency residential quarters
• Reconstruction laboratories
Federal investigators later concluded that the majority of Project Lazarus activities occurred within these lower levels rather than the publicly known surface facility.
Dr. Jane Tiptree was one of the most influential researchers employed by Eunice Corporation and is widely regarded as one of the central figures responsible for the Climax Incident.
Prior to 1993, Tiptree authored numerous research reports involving accelerated growth technologies, biological reconstruction, and prehistoric DNA research. Internal records indicate she played a major role in the development of Project Lazarus.
Following federal investigations, authorities discovered evidence suggesting that Tiptree had intentionally altered a prehistoric microorganism recovered during reconstruction research.
The resulting pathogen, later designated the Saurian Plague, was engineered to remain largely harmless to reconstructed animals while proving highly lethal to humans. Although it was discovered a very small population of individuals that have genetic code similar to Jane Tiptree's, are immune to the effects of the Saurian Plague.
Recovered journal entries indicate that the release was deliberate. Investigators concluded that Tiptree believed humanity was incapable of correcting its own destructive behavior and that widespread population collapse would ultimately benefit the planet.
These beliefs appear to have directly influenced modifications made to both the pathogen and the reconstructed animals themselves.
Her current location is unknown and an arrest warrant has been issued by the United States Government
Her actions are widely considered one of the primary causes of both the Climax Incident and the subsequent California Incident.
