Dr. Sudip Jana was born and raised in a small village in West Bengal, India. He completed his early schooling at his village school before joining Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur, Kolkata. He earned his B.Sc. in Physics (Honours) from the University of Calcutta and subsequently completed his M.Sc. at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). During his undergraduate studies, he was selected as an Undergraduate Associate at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics.

Dr. Jana pursued his doctoral studies at Oklahoma State University, USA, under the supervision of Regents Professor Dr. K. S. Babu. As part of the Distinguished Scholar Program, he spent three years at Fermilab, where he worked closely with Dr. Pedro Machado. He obtained his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics in 2019.

Following his doctorate, Dr. Jana joined the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK), Germany, as a postdoctoral researcher. There, he collaborated with leading scientists including Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Manfred Lindner, Prof. Dr. Alexei Smirnov, Prof. Dr. Evgeny Akhmedov, and Prof. Dr. Werner Rodejohann. He also held visiting fellowships at Harvard University and the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP), Santa Barbara, and spent significant time conducting research at CERN.

Dr. Jana’s research spans a broad range of topics in particle and astroparticle physics, with a primary focus on neutrino physics and physics beyond the Standard Model. Over the years, he has made internationally recognized contributions to the field, reflected in more than 5000 citations, an h-index of 37, and nearly 50 invited talks at major international conferences and leading institutions. He has authored 83 preprints, most of which are published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, including six in Physical Review Letters. Many of his works have been highlighted in prominent scientific news outlets and are closely connected to ongoing and future experimental programs.

In recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions, Dr. Jana was selected in 2026 as an Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences. In the same year, he officially became a member of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), a cutting-edge international collaboration dedicated to advancing neutrino science. He has also served as a Convener of the national-level Workshop on High Energy Physics (WHEPP), contributing to the strengthening of the high-energy physics community in India.

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Jana is deeply committed to mentoring graduate students from various institutions, many of whom have gone on to secure competitive research positions. He regularly serves as a referee for leading journals such as Physical Review Letters, Physical Review D, JHEP, JCAP, Nuclear Physics B, and European Physical Journal C. His academic service also includes participation in faculty search committees, including for a tenure-track position at Oklahoma State University in 2019.

Dr. Jana has delivered advanced lecture courses at prestigious institutions, including ICTP-SAIFR (Brazil) and Heidelberg University (Germany) in 2024. He is actively involved in science outreach and has volunteered at schools and science events in remote regions of India to promote physics education. In 2024, he convened the “Ask a Scientist” program at SURF (CETUP*, South Dakota), aimed at enhancing public understanding of neutrinos and fundamental science.
