Cannabis Cultivation at Oakton College

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Facility

Do you use a greenhouse or a grow tent?

Neither!  The PharmaCann Oakton Cultivation Lab is a 2900 square-foot space built specifically to teach cannabis cultivation.

So, the lab is similar to commercial cultivaton centers?

Yes!  It's like a scaled-down version of a large cultivation center.  There are separate rooms for flowering plants, vegetative plants, mother plants, cloning, drying, and curing.  Students use state-of-the-art equipment to manage all aspects of plant growth.

Where is the Cultivation Lab?

We are located on Oakton's campus in Des Plaines, IL.  Des Plaines is a Chicago suburb about 20 minutes north of O'Hare.

Our Cannabis Cultivation Certificate

Are there any special requirements to enroll in Oakton's cannabis programs?

No!  Just apply to Oakton and follow the steps to enroll.

What courses do I need for the Cultivation Certificate?

How long does the Cultivation Certficate take to complete?

A minimum of two semesters.  This is because CNB-107 is a full semester (16 weeks) long, and requires CNB-101 (Intro to Cannabis) and CNB-106 (Cannabis Cultivation Operations) as prerequisites.

Can I take the courses online?

Yes!  Our courses are offered online and in person.  CNB-107 (the grow lab class) is a hybrid course: Students watch lectures online, and come to campus two evenings a week to work in the Cultivation Lab.

How much does the Certificate cost?

Tuition is $136.25 per credit hour for online and hybrid courses, incuding CNB-107.  The Cultivation Certificate requires a total of 12 credit hours.  So a student who took all courses online would pay 12 * $136.25 = $1635.  See Tuition for more.

I don't have access to a laptop or high speed internet.  How will I be able to access online courses?

Oakton offers Laptop and Hotspot Checkout for students.
