Dr. M. D. Selvaraj’s journey is a compelling narrative of academic brilliance, steadfast leadership, and unwavering dedication to innovation. He earned his foundational degrees—B.Tech. and M.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering—from Pondicherry Engineering College (now Puducherry Technological University), before completing his Ph.D. at the prestigious IIT Delhi.
In 2012, he embarked on a transformative chapter of his career by joining IIITDM Kancheepuram as a faculty member. Over the years, Dr. Selvaraj has ascended to the rank of Professor in the Department of ECE, while holding pivotal leadership roles including Dean (Design, Innovation, Incubation), and previously, Dean of Sponsored Research, Industry Consultancy, and Continuing Education, as well as Head of the ECE Department. His visionary leadership has helped shape the institute's academic and research direction.
An architect of academic excellence, he has served on selection committees for both faculty and non-teaching recruitment in premier technical institutions and reputed private universities. His prowess in securing funding is notable—with over ₹1 crore in grants awarded by the DST and other agencies—while also contributing his expertise as an evaluator of DST project proposals.
Beyond administrative excellence, Dr. Selvaraj has made significant scholarly contributions. He is the current Editor of the IETE Journal of Research, and served as an Associate Editor for the Elsevier Computers and Electrical Engineering Journal during 2018–2021. As the Founder Branch Counselor of the IEEE Student Chapter at IIITDM Kancheepuram, he has fostered a thriving culture of student engagement and professional growth.
A committed academic citizen, he has been a Technical Program Committee (TPC) member for the National Conference on Communications (NCC) and SPCOM for the past decade, and has lent his expertise as a Board of Studies member across several Tamil Nadu institutions.
Dr. Selvaraj’s scholarly pursuits span Wireless Communication, Spatial Modulation, Non‑Orthogonal Multiple Access, and Cooperative Communication. In these domains, he has mentored numerous B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. students, guiding them through their academic and research journeys.
