EDUCATION AND SCIENTIFIC TRAINING

Olena V. Kolesnikova graduated with honors from Kharkiv State Medical University in 1996 with a degree in General Medicine.

In 2002, she defended her PhD thesis on "Pathogenetic aspects of hormonal disorders in patients with chronic diffuse liver diseases in the dynamics of treatment" at the Department of Faculty Therapy of Kharkiv Medical University under the supervision of Prof. Khvorostinka V.M.

In June 2013, she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cardiovascular risk in obese patients: clinical, pathogenetic, diagnostic and prognostic aspects" under the supervision of Prof. Babak O.Y. In 2019, she received the academic title of professor.

She received and confirmed the qualification of "Therapist" (1996, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2019 - the highest category in the specialty "Therapy"), in 2010, 2016, 2021 - the highest category in the specialty "Gastroenterology". The title of cardiology specialist was confirmed in 1998, 2003, 2013, 2018; endocrinology specialist - in 2015 and 2020.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

Since 2006, she has worked at the Institute of Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine as a senior researcher at the Department of Liver and Gastrointestinal Diseases, where she led the following fundamental research projects as a responsible executor: "To study the pathogenetic mechanisms of fatty liver infiltration and develop criteria for its early diagnosis and approaches to therapy"; "To determine methods for diagnosing the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with metabolic syndrome, taking into account hematological markers of fibrosis"; "To develop methods of detection and prevention of non- alcoholic fatty liver disease based on the study of clinical, pheno- and genotypic features in patients with metabolic syndrome"; "To establish the genetic polymorphism of the ADIPOR2 gene and the clinical course of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with cardiovascular risk".

In 2008, she was promoted to senior researcher.

From 2013 to the present, she has been holding the position of Deputy Director for Research. From 2013 to 2019, she served as Head of the Department of Scientific and Organizational Work and Medical Information with the Library.

In 2019, the Department of Aging Processes and Prevention of Metabolic Associated Diseases was established, which she heads to this day. Under her supervision, 3 PhD theses were defended: Yaresko M.V. "Optimization of cardiometabolic risk prediction in women with hypertension in combination with obesity in perimenopause" (2017); Kozyreva T.E. "Diagnostic value of Helicobacter pylori infection in predicting cardiovascular risk in patients with coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus" (2017); Potapenko A.V. "Optimization of diagnosis and treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in combination with subclinical hypothyroidism based on the assessment of cardiometabolic changes" (2019). Since 2019, A.O. Radchenko has been studying in the educational program and performing her dissertation work "Pathogenetic mechanisms of premature aging in patients with arterial hypertension and subclinical hypothyroidism and optimization of treatment and prevention measures".

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

The priority direction of scientific activity during 2006-2013 was theoretical generalization and new solution of actual problems of modern therapy, namely the development of methods for early diagnosis and prognosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in obese patients based on a comprehensive study of the clinical course of diseases, lipid and carbohydrate profile, changes in the functional state of the liver, the nature of fat distribution in the body, the content of adipose tissue hormones - adiponectin, resistin, inflammatory immune factors - tumor necrosis factor-α, C-reactive protein, genetic determinants - polymorphic markers ADIPOR1, ADIPOR2, PNPLA3 depending on the degree of liver steatosis and cardiovascular risk; proposed criteria for individual prescription of early preventive and therapeutic measures.

From 2013 to the present, she has been working on improving the early diagnosis and prognosis of non-communicable diseases (obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia), searching for early cardiometabolic predictors on cardiovascular risk. During 2017-2019, she proposed a search research project: "Influence of cardiovascular risk factors on premature aging". Since then, the focus of scientific interest has been on markers of vascular aging and the development of preventive and therapeutic measures to prevent premature aging.

In 2019, under her leadership, the Department of Aging Processes and Prevention of Metabolic Associated Diseases was established, with the scientific directions of which were the creation of a concept on the influence of premature aging factors in the formation of various phenotypes of metabolic-associated diseases, the study of the influence of epigenetic factors, environmental factors, nutritional and behavioral patterns on the human epigenotype and the rate of age-related processes, as well as the determination of the genetic determinism of risk factors for premature aging.

PUBLIC ACTIVITY

Since 2015 - Vice President of the Ukrainian Association of Preventive Medicine. A full member of the European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (EASL), a member of the EAPC - European Association of Preventive Cardiology, a member of the European Association for the Study of Atherosclerosis (EAS). Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Therapeutic Journal and Modern Gastroenterology. Chairman of the Institute's Bioethics Committee and Chairman of the Expert Committee on HDP, Deputy Chairman of the Bioethics Committee of the Ukrainian Gastroenterological Association.

As part of her functional responsibilities, she organised the L.T. Malaya Schools for General Practitioners and visits to 5 regions of Ukraine: Lviv, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Odesa and Ivano-Frankivsk, aimed at disseminating the achievements of the scientists of the L.T. Malaya National Institute of Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine among practitioners.
