Prof. João Arantes is a professor in the Higher Education Program in Technology in Educational Design (TEDE) at the Federal University of São Paulo, Reitoria campus. He holds a degree in Naval Sciences with a specialization in electronics from the Naval Academy (1987) and is a Mechatronics Engineer with a focus on Automation and Systems from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (1992).
He has earned several advanced degrees, including a master’s in Systems and Computing Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1996), a master’s in Ocean Systems Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2000), a master’s in Civil and Environmental Engineering from MIT (2000), and a doctorate in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1998), with a concentration in High-Performance Computing. He also completed postdoctoral studies at the Faculty of Education at USP in the Department of Teaching Methodology and Comparative Education.
Prof. Arantes has extensive experience in Project Management, Systems Dynamics, and Project-Based Learning. He is the leader of the Research Group on Project-Based Learning and coordinates the extension program Project-Based Social Learning. He has also served as an external advisor for the master’s and doctoral programs at the Faculty of Education at USP, focusing on Teaching Didactics, Methodologies, and Teacher Training. Currently, he is a professor in the Professional Master’s Program in Inclusive Education (PROFEI).
