For my interview I decided to interview my sister, Kendall Hunt. I didn’t know at first we could choose who we could interview.
Kendall has a unique major, which made me think to interview her for this essay. She is twenty-two and goes to Northern Illinois University. Kendall loves art and decided to become an art major. Since I don't know much about the art field, this is a great opportunity for me to find out more. I did not think much of Kendall going into art, I just thought of how some people do struggle through life, this is not something I wanted to happen to her. . I trust Kendall to do what she loves to do.
Here are some of my questions I decided to ask Kendall, “Why do you like art? How do you feel about your art when you compare yourself to someone else's?” “I like art because I am able to express emotions through physical form rather than verbal. I try not to compare my work to others because my work has its own personal meaning. When it comes to technique of the other person's work it inspires me to perfect my own skills.” I was happy to hear her answer mostly because it was the one I was hoping for her to say. My next question to Kendall was,“What is your favorite subject to do in art?” She responded by saying “I like to do things that are related to healing and experience of color perceived by the eye.” I followed up by asking, “Do you feel like you look at art differently than other people?” I asked her this because she has experience in art making, maybe she can see things in artwork better than the average person. She responded by saying, “Yes because I feel like I can tell what the medium is and almost visualize how they made the artwork.” She also volunteers which has helped shape her personality. “What is an event that helped shape you and your personality?”“I would say my internship with Safe Passage because it helped me see how to become a more understanding person to others disadvantages. I became more compassionate toward helping the community that I live in.” I am very proud of her because she always works her hardest and tries her best. I didn’t know art could be used to help people, for example she also does art therapy which helps people express their emotions.
I asked Kendall some more general questions like “What are you strengths and weaknesses? How did you come across to find out what your strengths and weaknesses are?”’ “My strength is that I am selfless and understanding of others. My weakness is that I tend to give up early on things i'm not good at. I came across my strength by doing community service and volunteering. I believe that everyone has my weakness to an extent and others deal with it differently.” I am happy about how true these are to her personality. Kendall also is the first one to strive to volunteer. he has gotten me off my butt to go out and help. We also foster dogs and after we get one adopted she always asks when are we getting another one because she always wants to lend a helping hand to everyone even dogs. I then asked her “What makes you different from other people?”’ “What makes me different is that I am a good listener. People my age are very good at talking about themselves and not taking the time to listen/care about other people.” She is right about how in recent time people mostly like to talk about themselves and don’t like to listen to other people's opinions or listening in general. Now with phones I see people in my classes go on them all the time. Next I went into asking her some questions about her job, she works with young children at a daycare. “Would you recommend your job/career to someone?”’ “Yes if they enjoy working with kids and helping them grow.” This lead me to ask her, “How did you find out what career you wanted to go into?”’” By different life experiences that showed me I want to better other people.” After that I questioned to myself if I would like this job personally and I am not a huge fan of kids and it wouldn’t be in my best interest. I then asked her some non related art questions I started with a funnier and light hearted one “What is your spirit animal? How do you feel like this differs from other people?““Hummingbird. I feel like this differs from other people because I do not like to be always be seen by other people, but I am useful to others.” I feel like this is one hundred percent true because she likes to be fly and try new things and then go back to the older things she was doing before and she doesn’t mind if she is noticed or not. I then asked her “What is your favorite free time activity? Why you spend your time doing these activities?” “My favorite free time activity is playing with my dog because it is a big stress reliever.” I can confirm this as my dog loves to be walked and play outside. He always loves his toys and lately we always have been playing with him more because our recent dog passed away.
To close out the interview, I asked her some more serious questions. “When you failed at something how did you bounce back from it? Did you ever go back to it even after failing?””One of my weaknesses is giving up when things don't go my way, so it is hard for me to go back to something that I failed on. I bounce back by keeping in mind my true goal.” I didn’t know this about Kendall until after I interviewed her and I was surprised when she talked about and realized that it was a good policy to go off of. Then for the final question I wanted to find out what her goal was later in her life. “What is your 10 year plan? Where do you want to live? What can you visualize?”’ “My plan is to be working in the court system as an advocate for children. I also want to be working in a private practice counseling as an art therapist and counselor. I preferably want to be working and living in Texas or Colorado. On the side I want to be making artwork to sell and expand on my skills.” I was excited to hear what she has planned farther down in her life.
After interviewing Kendall I felt like we now have a better relationship as brother and sister and I can say that I fully trust her decision to go into art. She always been with me since the start literally with whatever I ask her for. Kendall helped me change my outlook on the art major in whole. I am happy I was able to experience this interview.
